Wedding Makeup FAQs: All your wedding makeup questions answered

If you love a wedding makeup that’s not too “wedding-y” then you’re in the right place. I’m here to deliver whatever you are looking for, whether you’re after simple and fresh wedding makeup or something glowing with a shimmery eye.

1. What if having my wedding makeup done isn’t important to me?

If you really aren't a wedding makeup kinda gal then here is my advice: don’t book someone to do your wedding makeup! Do it yourself if you want to. This is your wedding and booking a wedding makeup artist isn’t compulsory! However, you will be surprised how stressful and busy the morning of your wedding can be. Perhaps you’ve been up late the night before sorting out the venue, or maybe you were simply having a meltdown in bed when you were supposed to be getting your beauty sleep. Weddings are wonderful, but all that magic doesn’t happen without a little bit of stress thrown in. Having a wedding makeup artist there to pamper you and take that part of the morning off your hands can be a godsend. When you’re in the wedding makeup chair you can take a moment to close your eyes and relax while I work my magic for you.

2. What should I look for in a wedding makeup artist?

After you’ve done your research and narrowed your search down to 3 or 4 wedding makeup artists, I would take a few weeks to study their Instagram. A makeup artist’s Instagram profile is always their most up-to-date portfolio and it can give a great overview of their style. *This is important: Just because an artist doesn’t post wedding makeup on the regular doesn’t mean they’re any less capable than someone who only does weddings. Versatility is a strength, not a weakness and my own feed is a mish-mash of work that includes, fashion, films, music videos and weddings. Ultimately, pick the wedding makeup artist whose work you admire the most.

3. If I get my wedding makeup done will I look like myself?

This is the most common question I’m asked. Having your wedding makeup done by someone else is such a personal thing and this is why communication is key! If you’re really nervous then give me a call and tell me what you’re worried about. So that I can get a sense of your style, email me pictures of wedding makeup you like, add me to your wedding makeup Pinterest board and, finally, send me a picture of yourself from a time when you liked your own makeup.

4. I never wear false lashes, do I need them?

You don’t need to have anything you don’t want or might make you feel uncomfortable on the day. I do think that wedding makeup can be really enhanced by a few falsies and my personal recommendation would be individual lashes because you can barely feel them on and look very natural.

5. How do I book you for my wedding makeup?

Send me an email: georginalucyyates@gmail.com or get in touch via the contact form on my contact page and let me know the date, time, location of your wedding and how many of you are wanting my wedding makeup services. If I am free and you are happy to go ahead with the booking I will send a deposit invoice for you to secure your date and my contract for you to electronically sign.

6. What information do I need to give you prior to my wedding date?

In your initial email let me know the date, time, venue (where you will be getting ready at) and number of people wanting wedding makeup. I will then set out time slots for each person and this will determine my arrival time. You will also need to let me know if you or any member of your bridal party have any allergies or sensitivities to products - this is where a trial really comes in handy. If you have a set idea for your bridal party’s makeup then clearly map it out for me and give me a reference to follow. If your venue is hard to find then give me instructions. Let me know where I should park. Warn me if you think someone might be difficult and I’ll be EXTRA nice to them :)

7. Why are some wedding makeup artist’s more expensive than others?

Prices are reflective of a number of factors:

Training:

I’ve invested thousands into training at London College of Fashion and at the London School of Hair.

Products:

I use exclusively high-end products such as Giorgio Armarni, Charlotte Tilbury, Bobbi Brown Skincare and Nars.

Experience:

Some wedding makeup artist’s might have just begun their makeup journey and others are miles down the road.

Distance:

If you have booked a wedding makeup artist who is based a long way from your venue they may have calculated their travel costs into the overall price.

Demand:

Some wedding makeup artists have more demand in other fields, such as film and fashion. Therefore, it must be financially worth their while to do a wedding over a film shoot. This is why I have a four person rule for Saturdays during the peak summer months.

A super-talented make-up artist. I booked Georgina for my bridal make-up and the result was perfect for me, my personal style and my wedding. I felt beautiful and had so many comments on how great I looked. I highly recommend her service.
